Receiver Efficiency
There is a way to rate the quarterbacks but not one to rate the receivers really. For the rating I was thinking to work it would require a few things and I did not have all of them this time around, but there is always next season. For now we are going to look at the numbers we have. We have:
Number of Receptions
Number of Touchdowns
Yards
Now lets get into it.
What Position had the most Receptions?
Wide Receivers had the most receptions followed by the Running Backs and bringing up the rear are the Tight Ends. Most formations have a lot of RBs or WRs on the field.
We know that there is always a total of 5 possible receivers. They vary by position, it seems that there is always at least a single Tight End or Wide Receiver on the field for all the formations. These formations have an effect on the recruiting habits of coaches and also their coaching philosophies.
Receptions by Conference
The BEAST had the most receptions which should come as no surprise as they threw the ball the most. They lead the way by almost 400 receptions, and that is a lot. The conferences are sort of ordered in the expected fashion. Power conferences ahead of the mid majors but even within that we have an order too which makes sense because of the composition of the conferences.
Receptions by Coach
awags knows how to get his guys open enough to get the ball to them and his boys know how to hold on top the ball when it comes their way. Truedevil also is good at getting the boys to catch the passes, with vhoward and thegruntboy on his heels.
Receptions by Year
The seniors are the ones most likely to have all the skills required to catch the ball and this can be seen in the graph above. Because there are not lot of RS players on any roster they tend not to top the lists. I am surprised that the RS freshman have less catches than regular freshman, but again there are more regular freshman than RS freshman.
What Position had the most yards?
As you would expect the Wide Receiver have the most receiving yards of all the three positions, they are followed by the Running Backs and the Tight Ends in last place. This correspondents to the order we saw with regards to receptions.
Most Yards by Conference
BEAST is out here beasting out on the yardage. Very little separates the Big XII and the SEC. There are clear drops in terms of the yardage going from BEAST to Big XII & SEC then another drop to PAC-10 & B1G and from there you have single step drops by conference. The mid major conferences prop up the table, not a big surprise there.
Yards by Coach
Everyone had at least a 1000 yards through the air this past regular season, well done everyone. Nobody broke the 9k yards barrier, I think thought it is a matter of time before we get there and maybe even 10k yards. If anyone can do it, it is the guys at the top of the list above.
Touchdowns by position
Again no surprise there, the wide receivers lead the way with touchdown receptions. I think that is why they are wide receiver, they know how to receive. The tight ends lag way way behind the RBs and WRs.
Touchdowns by Conference
525 touchdown receptions for the BEAST, that is 125 more than the second placed SEC. Propping the list are the MAC, come on philfulmer, lets get that number up a bit for next season. The ACC is the worst power conference with only 242 touchdown receptions, I hope they are getting their touchdowns on he ground. The West coast is considered to be a pass heavy coast but these guys are not really getting the job done.

So close to a century of touchdown receptions for awags. 99 is still impressive, coming in second place was bjschumacher and his Hawaii team, they had a great season this year. jeff18 at Boise State did not crack the double digits for touchdown receptions. I bet he will be looking at improving on that next season.
