Jabbering JAG 135.3 (Mid-Point Review)
We have already officially hit the halfway point on this season. Things seem to be flying by this season. We still have a lot of good football to be played and I'm excited to see how things turn out. As I have done over the past few seasons it is time to bring out my surprise teams and disappointment teams so far this season. Again, if you made the disappointment list it isn't meant to be a dis to you or your team it is just me stating that I am surprised at where that team sits at this point in the season.
Surprises
Arkansas Pine-bluff – A team still in rebuild? With a coach like this at the helm it’s not entirely unexpected that they are playing so well so far. A very potent offense keeps this team in games. They still have 4 humans in conference play but with how they have played so far they should be in all of those games and have a nice SOS to accompany their win total and make a decent playoff spot.
Georgia Southern – This team might finally be over the hump. A team who is always really competitive but hasn’t made a deep playoff run in a couple of seasons. They have some close wins over very solid teams. If they can keep this rolling through a solid conference schedule then GSU should maintain their #1 seed status.
Grambling State – This team has roared out of the gate. This team is always pretty competitive and in the playoff hunt. Right now, with how they are playing, they look to be a top seed come playoffs. Still 3 tough human games on tap for this team and all will be tough but if they play the way they have through the #9 SOS they could easily win 2 of 3.
Disappointments
Savannah State – Always a perennial playoff team and a tough out for anyone. This team loaded up their OOC play but going 1-4 was probably not what they were looking/hoping for. They have won 2 in a row and conference play looks to be pretty manageable but they will need to at least split their last 2 human opponents otherwise they probably miss playoffs.
Dayton – The team who was #1 by just about everyone entering the season. One surprising close loss and then two tough losses had this team off to a rough start. A lot of talent here and still a pretty tough road through conference. This team might have to do more than go 50/50 in their remaining human competitions otherwise this team might now be playing this post season which would be just the 2nd time since season 122.
Delaware State – Projected by the media guides to finish 13-0. This team is still in rebuild mode but their two games against humans haven’t even been competitive. In a very sim filled conference they will need to win their last 2 human games to probably have any shot at making playoffs. The defending MEAC champs will have their work cut out for them and will need to impress some people if they hope to make playoffs for a 3rd straight season.
