Jabbering JAG 132.8 (Championship Game)

Well the time has finally arrived. Our DIAA National Championship match is set! We have the 2-time defending champions doing battle against a quickly up and coming Dayton squad. Probably not the matchup that anyone saw coming this season but that is why we play and enjoy this game so much.

First, let's take a look at the defending National Champions. The Texas Southern Tigers come in with a perfect 18-0 on the season again this year which puts their win streak at 37 games. Texas Southern comes into the game with a 6-0 record against top 25 opponents this season.

TSU has an extremely young but talented roster this season. Last season this team had quite a few seniors to help propel them. This season they only have 8 seniors on the roster. This young team looks locked and loaded for many more seasons like this to come but will the youth affect them in this game?

Texas Southern rolled through pretty much everyone this season. They looked like their youth might inhibit their season as they had two 13 point, hard fought games to close out non-conference play. Things then started to click for TSU as waltzed through conference play until they met a very determined Grambling State squad. GSU had the Tigers on their heals at halftime but things opened up a bit in the second half. TSU has shown no signs of slowing down in playoffs as the team has scored 40 or more points in every game. TSU will look to RS SR signal caller James Burns. Burns has been burning secondaries all season. He totaled over 8500 passing yards and 89 touchdowns.

Next, lets take a look at the Dayton Flyers. This team didn't make their conference title game but they have caught fire at the right time. Dayton is sporting a 14-3 record on the year and they have a 4-2 record against WIS top 25 opponents this season.

DU also made it here with a pretty young roster. Dayton has 10 seniors and only 7 juniors, that is a lot of youth that had to help carry this team this season. This team definitely has a bright future with all of this young talent and this team is hoping that despite the youth they will be able to unseat the defending champs.

Dayton started the season off strong with a perfect 5-0 record in non-conference play with really only one scare from their three human opponents. Dayton then continued to roll for a couple of games before suffering their first setback in Jacksonville. Dayton then finished conference play 3-2 and they lost their final 2 games of the regular season. This team started playoffs off a bit slow but they have continued to get a head of steam the further that they advanced. The offense has seemed unstoppable as they have put up 500+ total yards in every playoff game. The Flyers will rely heavily on RS JR QB Charles Hardin. Hardin has a 46 touchdowns to 9 interceptions on the season and he has tallied up almost 6000 passing yards this season.

This championship looks like it should be another dandy!

I first, want to congratulate everyone who made the playoffs on a great season! Finally, to our national title contenders, congratulations on amazing seasons and for making it to the title game. I wish you both the best of luck!
