Maze Wrap Up
We have come to the end of games in the greatest world on WIS. But before we go any further let me say CONGRATS to all the national champions. You guys deserved it, you played great seasons, and also many congrats to the losing coaches, you guys had great seasons as well and this should spur you to come back stronger next year and to everyone else, step your game up and not your hate. I’m just serious, nah I’m just kidding.
Let us just briefly talk about the national title games. Let’s start off with Oklahoma vs Michigan, now this was not as close as I had hoped for and it did not go the way I had predicted. Maybe I jinxed the Sooners, but I don’t have that kind of power. Michigan with coach nortonis picked up their third national title in the world. Michigan are worthy champs. Coach nitros led his team to a repeat season, kudos coach. Despite the turnovers, he still managed to get his boys over the line with a great 4th quarter. Not only did they put up points in the 4th they also shut down their opposition. The pressure is now on for a 3peat. Many congrats to coach mikesy at Slippery Rock for getting the title in his first try with the team. Very impressive coach, it was a close game that got interesting in the second half but was decided in the first half. Coach islanderbob managed to get himself a 3rd national title at Brockport and he did so convincingly. Again, many congrats to all the national champs. Everyone else now you have new targets to aim for, so get loaded up in the off season and go get ‘em.
The other thing that too place today was the firing of coaches. We never want to see that happen to anyone, but it happened again. At the D-1A level for now we lost coach stoopsie at UConn and coach cjl9652 out of Washington. The Washington coach had been there for a while now, 23 seasons, and in the last few years things have not been going to well and that led to the unfortunate result today. There is always the chance that he can apply back and continue with what he has been working on or maybe he wants a new start somewhere else. With the loss of a coach at UConn the Big East is now back to a hybrid of human coaches and Sim AI coach. I am sure someone will walk into the UConn job soon rather than later. It is a great location and you also get to play good coaches in your conference which should help with SOS and might propel you to a national title game. Well you would still need to beat the other coaches. We also had some coaches save their jobs and some slid into the hot seat.
This like most seasons in the world was an interesting one. We had South Carolina looking good for a while and then they got into conference play were the got knocked off by the Gators, then in the conference title game by LSU and in their bowl game by Penn State. I was definitely a great season but it did not have the ending they were looking for. Now we have to see if it was a one-off season or are they for real. If they are for real then the SEC has just got interesting because awags has been improving his team every year and next year they will be serious contenders for titles. We should expect more of the same from the other coaches who are established in the conference. Keep an eye out for the SEC.
The Seminoles had a tough start to the season but had good conference play which saved their season from a write-off. I expect them to do better somewhat next year, it will take them time to build the roster they want to perform at the top level. Clemson is another school I expect to do a bit better next year as it will be their second year with the coach, unless he leaves. Until the other coaches get it together to challenge Boston College, I expect them to represent their division in the conference title game for a season or two. On the other side things will only get tougher for coach bama2448 as cjsweat gets his team up to speed to challenge. I would also throw in coach tampafla to challenge as his job might now depend on him performing.
I expect the Cornhuskers to be back firing next season. I expect them to be challenging again. I expect blitziscomin to make another run for the national title. I will be expecting Longhorns to be put themselves in contention for a national title also because it has been a long while for them since they won it, or even made it there. Coach lyonzfan is building himself a nice legacy at Colorado and we will expect even more from him and his boys, he has a tough job to keep his team off that stuff that is legal in Colorado. I expect the coaches at K-State Missouri and Baylor to continue to improve their roster and also their job security. For the Aggies, well I fully expect them to get worse as that has been the trend for them since huskerfan got there. What is a husker fan doing at a team in Texas? Might this be an inside job to destroy a good program?
The Big East will continue to be an interesting conference. They lost a coach but as I said before I expect the position to be filled soon. We have a few coaches who are rebuilding programs and I expect better years from them next year, especially from Marquette because two wins is not good enough. I think the conference title will be between coach bj and coach sooners again next year. They have the best teams in the conference but their closest challenges will come from coach allen129, z32fanatic for coach bj and for coach sooners I think coach chainsaw and da_goat will challenge him more next year. I expect the other coaches to improve as well. West Virginia should be great this coming season because the coach has shown us that he is good.
The home conference for the new national champion were we expect the new champs to continue to run things next year. They will continue to run their division for sure, nothing against the other coaches but I doubt they will be able to touch the champs. On the other side of the conference I expect Ohio State to continue to get better and better to the point were they will be in the conversation for national titles too. I am sure the other coaches will be there or there abouts. I expect them to just maintain their positions and not really move up or down. I am sure they will use this as bulletin board material and I hope they do so because we expect more from them than they are providing us with.
Conference USA will continue to be a two-horse race in my book. The two horses met in the conference title the last two years and I expect that to continue for the forseeable future. I think they will be passing the title from each other like a joint. They do say sharing is caring. The other coaches will have to really step up to try and break this duopoly, it reminds me of what used to happen in La Liga, with Real Madrid and Barcelona. That was for my soccer lovers out there. I hope the soccer lovers are ready for the Champions league final with Real Madrid looking to successfully defend their title whilst Juventus will look to give Gigi Buffon the only title he hasn’t won. Back to egg football. In the conference, I expect the other coaches to perform similar to what they did this year. They will be there or there about again.
In the MAC, I expect Bowling Green with coach warrior0510 to be battling for the conference title. What a turn around the coach has managed to orchestrate in two years. The only way is up for him and his team. I am sure Buffalo will be back in the conversation for the conference title again but I expect a fight from Akron with coach saintjo. In the West division, I think we are going to have a three-way battle to represent the West in the conference title. I think all the coaches will improve next year, be on the lookout for coach babcick in the East division. He should be up there next year, considering he made a bowl game in his first year with the team. Things can only get better.
We already kind of touched on the PAC10, they lost a coach already but I am sure they will gain another soon enough. Washington is a good spot to be in but Oregon might just prohibit anyone from picking up another school in the Northwest corner. I think it will be the same suspects in the conversation about ruling the conference. The team I have felt has been M.I.A has been Stanford in that conversation and I hope next year they will throw their weight around a bit more. I am sure the other coaches will have something to say about it all. I don’t expect too many changes expect Oregon doing better than they did this year.
For the Sun Belt, I think the only change we are going to see is Navy throwing their weight a bit more in deciding who gets into the conference title game. The other coaches should maintain their levels or maybe improve a bit from their current situations. I know they will not want to hear this but I think it is true. The competition is tough in the world and with that in mind it I harder to make significant improvements to a squad, but that does not mean it is impossible. For the WAC I think the upcoming year is when Pete will be flexing his muscles a bit. I think he will have enough talent to be a conference title contender next year. I know he will say it is too early in his rebuild but I say no, it is time so look out world, Pete is coming. The other coaches hopefully had some fun running things but I think there will be a new sheriff in town starting next year.
Now I realize that all of this might change with coaches moving and so forth but at the time of writing everything was accurate. I hope there is some movement in coaches coming up from D-1AA, to come join us. If any coaches think about moving just remember Texas Tech is wide open and waiting for you. Until the next time take it easy.
