Battle Maze Vol. 2
New week and it is the same old stuff. Is that really true though? Some battles are being lost and won, so I guess, it is true. I am betting people are now running low on funds and others are still swimming in it. Check which group do you belong to? Whichever one you belong to, I hope you are winning your battle(s) except the guys I am battling. We are going to look at the remaining top 200 unsigned players, and we start off with the OL.
We have a few battles taking place this year. Some battles I think are now academic, I think they are already won but the recruits are just keeping the coaches in suspense. We have a lot of coaches battling it out for them big boys.
Looking at these fellas and their numbers you know why these coaches are battling it out. They are just slogging it out for that signature. I looked at their numbers as I was writing this and they were impressive. I am not sure about the potential for the players but whatever it is I would not worry about it because the numbers for these guys are already off the charts.
The Fighting Irish and the Wolverines are going at it for two recruits that are left over. I remember hearing on the podcast, The Devil and Friends, that you should not battle for linemen. I am guessing these coaches missed that episode. So here is what we know about these schools. They started off with the same bowl money, Notre Dame had an extra $15k because of the extra scholarship they had going into recruiting, this year. Michigan has signed 9 out of 12, whilst Notre Dame has signed 9 out of 13. Michigan is in three battles and all three are listed above for the big men who keep the QB upright and also open holes for the RBs. I am of the opinion if you can get your hands on a stud lineman, go for it, and Michigan is going for it. The other Michigan battle is with Northern Illinois with the second year coach, the great bhazlewood. I am not sure who is going to win this particular battle, the schools had the same number of scholarships but probably different amounts of bowl money and on that I am guessing Michigan has more bowl money. I am not sure how many battles Michigan had this year, so they might have some more money to box out the other schools but on the other hand they might just become stretched out by battling on three fronts against two coaches. Of the three battles, I bet Michigan gets 1 W and lose out the other two. Notre Dame get the two wins, and I am sorry Northern Illinois but I do not see you winning against the Wolverines for the stud muffin OL.
Another battle going on is the Louisville and Missouri cage match. Missouri, you are battling for a guy who is in Louisville, KY. He is a hometown kid and you want him to leave mom's home cooking and have him come out to Missouri. Come on man. That is crazy, but stranger things have happened. Missouri has already signed 13 out of 14 recruits and they can now dedicate their remaining resources to get this guy away from mommy. They had a good chunk of bowl money and so did Louisville I am guessing. Louisville with their second year coach, have signed 8 of 13. Looking at these numbers, it tells me that Louisville is in a few battles and they might not have the resources to keep the young man in town to keep enjoying that home cooking. Now taking all of this into account I think the Mizzou Tigers will be able to pull off the coup. They will get their man.
Wayne Krueger has two schools on him. Wayne has the Cornhuskers and Rams going at it. In real life the Ram will just eat the corn, job done but this ain't real life. Colorado State has thus far signed 10 out of 18 recruits. They are still in a lot of battles or maybe not. They might have decided to take on some walk ons and then cut them to get their recruiting numbers to a more reasonable level. Or I am just spewing nonsense about their situation. But here is what I know for sure, Nebraska has thus far signed 7 out of 9 recruits. They are close to filling their class and adding Wayne will allow them to do so. Wayne is a stud and I am not surprised by seeing these two coaches going at it for him. The only thing I am worried about, is his potential, if it is low he will still be able to produce but if it is high he will be producing at an exponential rate. Wayne is out of Colorado and might not want to leave the hippy life in the Rocky mountains. He might enjoy skiing in Aspen, CO and not just looking at corn farms. Now having said all that, my money is on Nebraska snagging him up. I know they might have a distance disadvantage but the Rams barely signed more than half what they need and that does not fill me with confidence that they will be able to pull this off. I hope they do, so that I do not have to worry about Wayne for the next 4 years.
Greg Guzman, has a choice to make. Is it going to be the Austin or is it going to be Dallas. Do you want the hippy, weird city of Austin or the city were you have Jerry's world and the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Now this fella was in my backyard but I did not even bother to try and sign him. I hear you saying why not? Well, I figured the chances of landing him were low because the Longhorns were going to jump on him and I was right. The Longhorns did jump on him and they also had SMU join them. Now I am familiar with the Longhorns, we tend to bump into each other all the time, be it on recruits or in games, which we do every year. Greg is ranked as the number 18 OL, which is high. His numbers are good, maybe I should have gone after him. I consider the battle between these two coaches and schools, a David vs Goliath, battle. And as we know David won that battle and I am sure David will win this one too. Texas is caught up in a few battles and that might be too much for them. They are stretched all across the southwest for recruits, but with the Longhorns you never know. I am sure they have a vault of money so they might be able to pull off all the battles and fill their class.
Now I know I made predictions on who will win the battles but as you guys already know, I am never wrong, maaaaan. I am always right, be it, I am using real facts or alternative facts, I am always correct. I wish everyone good luck in their battles except the coach I am battling, I hope you lose to me good sir but you win all your other battles. We will try to look at the other remaining battles tomorrow, if there are still any battles going on. You better be working on your legs because we will be having more runs in the Maze .
