Battle Maze
Guess who's back, back again
The Maze is back, tell a friend
Guess who's back, guess who's back
Guess who's back, guess who's back
The Maze is back just as things are hitting up. I hope everyone has managed to lock up a few guys. We are just going to rumble through the Maze today. We can maybe get into a bit more detail about battles after signing day.
Now battles are going to happen in this game. It is just the nature of the beast. We have a finite amount of resources available, both in the sense of money and in the sense of the quality recruits available. The level of quality varies from school to school and from coach to coach. The schools the coaches are at also kind of determine what level of quality recruits to go after. The quality of recruits is like the old saying, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. There are some guys out there whose attribute numbers are super high for all to see and then there are those whose numbers are not that great but are still worth going after, and lastly there are the guys who everyone tries to avoid because their numbers are just way off. This is true across all the different levels.
Now I think it is safe to say for all of us, we HATE battles, except maybe those who win them all the time. I also think we all have been involved in battles. Now you want to make sure you win your battles, because that is were the game starts. You win your battles and I think your chances of winning the battles on the gridiron increase. I might be wrong because, well, you still need to gameplan well and know how to use the recruits you would have won. I think this feeds into the whole chicken and egg thing. What wins games, good recruits or gameplanning. Well I think a mixture of both is the true answer. You have to have the right recruits to execute the gameplan. So you want to get the right recruit and then use them right. But to get the right recruits you are going to have to fight for them. You have to battle for them.
Now you also need to know when to battle and when to let go of the recruit. There are plenty of recruits out there. You want to still get your own recruits in because the Sim AI recruits will most likely cost you a game or two. You can always cut them after their freshman year but that will cost you some Rep. So you want to try to avoid that, the cutting of the players, and anyway you can only cut three guys from your roster. With that in mind maybe limit battles to three guys if possibles and also in doing so you do not stretch yourself. Now this is not to say if you feel strongly about a recruit do not go all out for him. I have had a few recruits I threw everything at and it cost me dearly because I lost the battle and brought on walk-ons, needless to say this was not a good year for me. In your battles you also want to know who you are battling. There are some coaches who have a rep to battle hard and will almost always win every battle, so I would think twice about battling them.
When battling do not let your pride get in the way as it will write checks your behind will not be able to cash. If you are set on a guy and you are battling someone with more scholarship money and few battles, maybe don't battle them as you will definitely lose, no matter how good the player is don't do it. Let's say you find yourself in 4 battles and you have money for 2 recruits, things get tricky here because you still need 4 but can only afford 2. In this case I think everyone can see that the best way forward is to pick out which 2 you need the most and go all out for them and let the other 2 go. I hear some asking how do I decide on which 2 to go after when I need all 4. I have no idea. I would suggest you take a look at your roster and gameplan. After looking at your roster and knowing what your gameplan is, you will know which areas you can afford to take a hit in, which areas do you still have enough talent to still be able to win games even if they are shorthanded.
I think that is key. You want to know which hand you can have tied behind your back and still be able to win the fight. Now with this in mind there are still some areas and some recruits you should always try to go all out for. Depending on your roster, you can sometimes sit out a recruiting season for a certain position. Then again there are those "Sky is the limit" talents that you try to bring on board no matter what, you also have some studs who are just too good to pass up. If you are running on fumes for QBs you have to go all out. You can not win a game with a crappy QB unless you are my friend coach chrondon84. I am not sure why he carries any QBs, he only runs the ball and he does it so well too. Some coaches swear by RBs, whilst others will only carry WRs who take them to the promised land the NC berth, I am looking at you coach ebel331. Whatever the case maybe like I always tell you guys, I do not know jack. I am sure he is a nice guy.
I think that is enough rumbling for today. I just had an itch to put something together to hold everyone over until the Wilkinson Central show this weekend. Also great job to The Devil and Friends Show, fantastic job guys the other night. The host and his guests were great and the chat as always was a lot of fun. Now I am sure there will be some who will say what does this guy know and they are right, and there are some who will say this guy is on to something and they are wrong, definitely wrong. I just enjoy rumbling, you can ask hookemhorns7. Now I hope your legs strength has been built up enough during this off season such that when the season starts you will be in tip top shape. You want to get the kinks out of the legs like a Formula 1 car in winter testing. Now until the next Maze run, take it easy guys.
