D2 Recruiting

If this is your first time recruiting at the D2 level in Wilkinson then you are in for a treat. Its one that will be fun and trying. Its unlike any other world. Most worlds D2 is one you can have your pick of who ever you want. Here its eat or be eaten. Most places you can coast to a good class here you must work for everything you get. I’ve been in worlds where I could go after the best of the best and be done in a few cycles. Not gonna happen in Wilkinson! No two ways about it. So I am gonna give you a few tips. Hope this helps

1. Scout, scout and scout some more! You have to scout your team, your rivals team and the players. The best way to be successful is to know your enemy and there styles. Some will be all over the board and some will stay close to home. Don’t be scared when you see certain coaches all over the players you want. Coaches like that have sent out assistant scouts all over the place. And if their a high prestige coach and a big time school they will turn most green if they are the only ones going after them. So, if you like them scout them too. That’s why you have to know your enemy. Now you also need to know your team. If you are losing most of your OL or DB or any position the next season you should be recruiting to replace them this season. That way you’re not starting a bunch of freshmen at the same time. And never never never start a freshman QB unless its year one and you don’t have anything better. The INTs will kill you. So for QB you should be recruiting for 2-3 seasons down the road. As for the players themselves you need to go after 2-3 per spot you have open and take only the High potential guys if at all possible Freshman Jimmy may not be the best but if he is HP senior Jimmy just may.

2. Don’t fall in love! There will be players you will look at an think man I have to have him. And there will be other coaches that will think the same thing. The smart coaches will look deeper and find a player that is really close to the other player that said other coaches wont look at. It will save you money and allow you sleep more once signings start.

3.Recruit to your style. If you want to be an option team don’t go after a slow QB with a cannon and Wrs that cant block. So figure that part our first and then figure out what Jimmys and Joes you need.

4. Set a price for each player. I know sometimes the heat of the moment gets you be always set a cap for what you will spend of players. You get $6000 per scholarship but some are worth more and others are worth less. I’m not going to go to war over a kicker but I will over a QB. So know what each is worth to you and your team.

Basic tips

1 campus visit will usually turn an undecided green, but if he is stubborn send two the next time. But send them one at a time. It works 90% of the time. Also make sure are patient. Don’t spend all you money day one. I always tend to have a bunch of cash left and then start scouting players day two that I didn’t look at day 1. I don’t go after guys who are green for more than 24 hours. That is not a cool move. But if im just being curious and send an AC scout out to see if he is a HP guy and he turns yellow then I will try to land him if I want him. I know I contradicted myself but if one AC scout turns him then he was never really yours. Also try to sign mainly undecideds. I only try to clear sims for studs at the D2 level. You can sign a great class and still have 25% of your budget left. I love having a surplus and a great class.
