QB Maze

The off season is upon us people and it is about to go down. We have job openings, check them out. Keep yourself updated on the changes. Even if you are not planning on moving, you might want to keep track of these changes because they might affect you. Somebody might get into your area for recruiting or they might now be on your out of conference schedule. Also it is just fun on keeping track of changes in the world. Today though we are not going to get into that, we are going to look at quarterbacks. Everyone's favorite position, and also I think the most expensive position to recruit for. These guys are expensive because they carry all your hopes and dreams of getting to the big dance are on their shoulders.

You want to make sure you get the right shoulders to carry all those hopes and dreams. To try and give you a clue of what to look at, why don't we look at what was done this year by the top 5 quarterbacks according to WIS. They say to predict the future we have to look backwards and study history. I do not have access to any historic data so we are just going to look at what took place this season. Take a look at the table below:

Those are the top 5 QBs by yards. These are the guys who were chucking it down the field like their lives depended on it. Joseph Parker almost put up 7000 yards this past season in 15 games, which comes out to 465 yards in the air per game by this one QB. Those are impressive numbers, no matter who you are. Needless to say the LSU Tigers with him at the helm were the leaders in yards in the air in the SEC. This young man has been improving every year and I am scared of how good he will be next year. His class position ranks have been trending in the right direction. Be on the look out for this guy again next year, if he can bring in guys as good as the ones he is losing for the fellas who catch the ball the coach should expect more production out of him.

Randall Garcia was not too far behind Parker in the yards department all things considered. 6129 yards is not too shabby. Behind his arm the Hurricanes managed to put up the highest average passing yards in the ACC. They also managed to pick up some silverware along the way. Garcia has been improving like the first guy we talked about, his position ranking through the years has been trending in the right direction and so has everything else with this guy. He will be leaving the school this year, which will be a big loss to the Hurricanes, but need not worry they have another guy coming in behind him who is a stud.

Edward Moore finishes the podium places for the most yards this season. Eddie boy had himself 5516 yards, which is more than some teams managed all year. Eddie led his Midshipman to having the highest passing yards average in the Sun Belt. Seems to be a trend here, if your QB is on a most yards list your team is most likely to be close to the top of the conference in passing yards. Eddie is a stud muffin, his attributes numbers are off the chart and he has been the number 4 QB for his class his entire time since getting to Navy. His position rank has been improving as well, his studliness has been coming through. If you manage to get your hands on a QB like this you better fully use him. Eddie will be back next year so expect him to be back on this list. Navy is only going to lose 4 guys who are able to catch the ball so he should still be able to throw it.

The Sooners have themselves a stud in Shawn Hall. The boy Shawn has been improving throughout his entire college career. Shawn has been with the Sooners for 5 years and every year he has developed and turned into a stud QB. What I could do for a QB like this. The Sooners were not the top passing offense in the BIG 12 but they were still better than the Aggies. Shawn never threw a pick in his entire career, think about that. He never threw a pick his entire career. His contribution through the air kept improving as time progressed. Shawn Hall is moving on, thankfully, this is good news for the rest of the BIG 12. I am sure they are happy to see the back of him. The other coaches should not celebrate too much as there are other studs behind Shawn.

Finishing out the top 5 is fantastic Tommy, Thomas Knox. This young man managed to get himself 5466 yards this past season. With those yards his West Virginia team was the second best team when it came to passing the ball in their conference. This was not enough to give his team a winning record though. I think the coach just needs a bit more time and he will have the team firing on all cylinders. Given that Tommy was a redshirt freshman, there is a lot to come from him and this team for sure. I expect them to do a lot better in the upcoming seasons as the coach gets more weapons for him and also some help on the other side of the ball. The numbers for Tommy are trending in the right direction at the moment and if they keep doing so expect these guys to be challenging everyone else in the Big East in the upcoming seasons.

As promised we are going to keep this rather short and sweet. We are going to try and look at a few other things for QBs and other positions that might be of interest. Throwing yards are not the end all be all for QBs, so tomorrow I think we are going to look at a few other things for QBs and talk about it a bit. After the polls we had on twitter and in the forums we are going to give the people what they want and continue with the Maze runs during the off season. So until the next one, keep them legs ready.
