Alrighty fellas, no real intro to this one tonight. The final games of the season. GL to everyone still playing.
Miami (FL) (13-1) 31 vs Stanford (11-2) 28
LSU (12-2) 24 vs Texas (12-1) 33
South Florida (13-1) 27 vs USC (11-3) 31
Penn State (14-0) 35 vs Texas A&M (11-2) 21
California (14-0) vs Nebraska (13-1) - What an interesting national title game we have here. Cal a team who was here last season but fell short. Nebraska a team who got into the national championship via controversial rankings.
California comes in having whooped up on everyone this season. The Bears only had one game that was within double digits. This offense is beast, they average over 50 ppg and nearly 600 ypg... let me stress AVERAGE. That defense isn't too shabby either, they average just 16 ppg. The most this team has given up is 33 points but their offense still rolled in that game so it didn't really matter. Cal comes in with the #7 WIS ranked offense and the #10 WIS ranked defense.
Nebraska comes in with one blemish on the season but other than that this team more or less cruised through the #7 ranked SOS. This Cornhusker offense isn't quite that of old as they like to air the ball out quite a bit, however, they still throw in a nice touch of runs. The last time this team and this coach made the title game they won, back in season season 112. This team matches up very well defensively in this game and should provide an excellent game. Nebraska enters the game with the #17 WIS ranked offense and the #1 WIS ranked defense.
A top 10 offense vs a top 10 defense is sure to live up to the hype. A tough call here and I would love to see both of these coaches win this game but only one can win... CAL 28-26
Now for the DIAA National Championship...
#1N Drake vs #6E Eastern Illinois - If you would have told me this would be the national championship matchup at the beginning I would have called you crazy. I think only hatroq might have expected to be here but after a couple of early losses cjsweat would have probably thought his chances were slipping and his team might need some work. However... a month later, here we are with two coaches who have done an absolutely fantastic job this season.
Drake boasts a #1 ranking with a 17-1 record, there only loss came in week 3 to EKU. Drake cruised through conference play and then continued that into the playoffs. They finally got a challenge last game as they pulled off a nice win against Youngstown State to get to the title game. Drake averages over 40 ppg and nearly 500 yards per game. They give you something to think about as they average over 200 ypg on the ground and through the air.
EIU comes in with a #22 ranking and a 14-3 record. EIU went 1-2 against their human opponents in non-conference but then were able to roll through a sim filled conference schedule. Things were looking like EIU was just smoke and mirrors but once this team hit playoffs they almost literally caught on fire. This team has not won by less than 10 points throughout the playoffs and they had to go through some tough teams. EIU averages almost 50 ppg and well over 500 ypg.
This game, like DIA I would love to see both of these coaches win a national championship this season but only one can come out on top... EIU-28-24
