Day 3 - Big wins in the Big Sky
Weber State (1-2) breaks out of its early season slump to trounce Southern Utah in the battle of Utah. Richard Boucher accounted for 131 yards on the ground and 2 scores, and added another 150 yards receiving and another 2 scores to lead the Wildcats to victory.
St. Mary’s (3-0) continues to impress with a solid 44-13 victory over chetty’s Maine squad. While the yardage battle was pretty even, coach spcbuzzard made his yards count for scores. Bradley Weaver led the Gaels aerial attack, throwing for 321 yards and 4 scores, while the opportunistic Gael defense intercepted the Black Bear QB’s two times, resulting in 6 points off of turnovers.
Cal Poly’s (3-0) head coach kensei33 faced his old team in a road battle against Morgan State. Coach kensei33 had his troops plenty motivated, as the Mustangs came out to a 34-3 halftime lead and coasted home in the second half. Thomas Cooley led the Mustang attack, with 191 yards on the ground and another 82 through the air.
Northern Arizona (3-0) is coming out of the gate strong this season, defeating a talented San Diego squad in Flagstaff 30-13. The Lumberjack offense gained 400 yards of total offense, led by junior RB Timothy Hagan, from Cathedral City, CA. Hagan caught 13 passes for 123 yards and a score to lift the Lumberjacks to victory.
Texas State (3-0) dominated the ball in a trouncing of Grambling State, 33-10. The Bobcats nearly doubled the time of possession battle and made plays when it counted, going 11 for 21 on third down conversions. QB Douglas Hines put his game instinct to use, managing the pass game with 316 yards through the air and backup QB Jerry Gardner put the finishing touches on two drives, getting the Bobcats into the end zone. James Stanley finished off many drives, going 4/4 on FG attempts and another 3 PAT’s.
Sam Houston State (3-0) played like a well-oiled machine in a 61-7 trouncing of Robert Morris in Hunstville. The Bearkats outgained the competition 648-180. The Bearkat wide receivers stole the show over RMU. Jr WR Timothy Long caught 10 passes for 157 and Sr William Cook caught another 9 balls for 188 and found the end zone twice.
Montana State (1-2) continues to battle through the rough early season schedule, falling at the hands of Southwest Missouri State, 40-10. The Bobcats had trouble holding onto the ball in poor weather conditions, fumbling twice and throwing two interceptions. Sr Joseph Davis out of Anderson, CA, totaled over 100 yards of offense to lead the Bobcat attack. Coach kdawg0612 is not looking past tomorrow’s opponent, Howard, as MSU looks to get back on track.
Portland State (2-1) got several offensive contributions as the Vikings drubbed Tennessee-Chattanooga, 83-34. 4 Offensive players went over the century mark receiving, led by So RB Robert Sylvester’s 180 receiving yards. Fr QB Peter Davis had a coming out party, throwing for 352 yards and 7 scores to lead the potent Viking attack.
Tomorrow’s key games: Sam Houston State (3-0) at Youngstown State (3-0), Florida International (1-2) at Portland State (2-1) and Northern Arizona (3-0) at South Carolina State (2-1)
