Good Start For Big Sky Teams

The three new coaches in the Big Sky got off to good starts to begin non conference play in Wilkinson.

Northern Arizona capitalized on 4 Albany turnovers to earn a hard fought road victory. Willie Lynch found Timothy Hagan twice in the end zone for two scores, but the story of the game was the Lumberjacks ball-hawking linebacking corps. Peck, Ortiz, Bishop and McCann each had a pick. Anthony Zeigler was the main focus of the Lumberjack offense, gaining 147 yards on 19 receptions.

Sam Houston State won handily over an overmatched Howard squad 90-10. Truedevil33 earned his first coaching victory in Huntsville with a combination of strong offense and an opportunistic defense. Bobby Robinson to Scott Thompson was the go to matchup as Thompson caught 4 scores and 235 yards receiving. William Cook and Danny Blackwell also went over 100 yards receiving as the Bearkats had a strong aerial attack.

The Cal Poly Mustangs romped over Gardner-Webb 90-7 in kensei33's first game at the helm. It was the Thomas Cooley show for the Mustangs as he went over the century mark in both rushing and receiving. Cooley scored 4 TD's on the ground and another through the air and he singlehandedly outgained the Gardner-Webb offense by over 100 yards.

Texas State used a diverse rushing attack with some passing sprinkled in to control the clock and dominate Prairie View 65-0. Texas State QB Jerry Gardner threw for two scores and coach phimutau used much of his depth chart to get his players some valuable experience.

Bradley Weaver's 375 yards passing and two scores led the St. Mary's Gaels to a 51-7 victory over Northwestern State. Lawrence Mack and Keith Howard each went over 100 yards and the Gaels defense held NWSU to under 200 yards of total offense.

Montana State came up short against Jacksonville State, falling 46-30 in Bozeman. kdawg0612 tightened up on defense in the second half, holding JSU to 3 FG's on offense.

Portland State could not match the challenge of Tennessee Tech, coming into Portland, losing 34-6. The Vikings were outgained by 100 yards against Tennessee Tech.
