Rushing Analysis

How about we look at running the ball. I think this will make chrondon happy and make awags mad. At the Maze we try to cover all aspects of the game. We have covered QBs and receivers, and now we are going to look at the runners. We will try to look at the defensive side of the ball later. When I am talking about runners I am only looking at players who had a rush attempt that resulted in positive yardage, so we will have RBs and also WRs, maybe some QBs who had some good runs.

How many runners are there?

From the graph above we can see the number of players that have a rush attempt by position. Running backs had the highest number of players attempt to run the ball, followed way way behind by the QBs and a few WRs. I have heard of a few coaches that use the WRs to run the ball. I know Pete does it, he is not in the world for the data in question.

How many runners are there by conference?

Okay so the BEAST also has the most number of players that have made a rushing attempt. These guys have a good understanding of the offensive gameplan. The PAC-10 is in second place, they do not know anything, they are supposed to be throwing the ball but they do not as we saw already. The Sun Belt keeps mixing it with the big boys, they know how to represent the mid major conferences. The C-USA anchors the charts and I know truedevil is definitely helping in this category.

How many runners are there by School?

Houston with their shotgun formations only had two players make rushing attempts that ended up in positive yardage. Stanford and FSU ran by committee, 12 players were used to run the ball in some fashion. Alabama with awags are in the bottom third as expected, and we have Maryland and chrondon somewhat towards the top, they had 7 guys with some positive yardage. I bet chrondon is going to be at the top of this chart soon enough. He might just be switching things around.

Which players have the most rushes?

Wayne Roberts should sound familiar as he was crushing folks along with his Troy State guys. He had a few player of the week awards for the mid major conferences. Troy State went undefeated for the regular season on the back of this guy along with a few other big contributors on the team.

Who had the most rushing yards?

So now we know who had a hard time running the ball, the Irish, along with, USF, Houston and Utah State. They all had negative yardage at the end of the regular season. Troy State got the job done on he ground, along with UNC and the Gophers. So I think it is safe to say the UNC philosophy is run the ball with some sprinkles of passes.

Which players have the most yards?

Wayne Roberts topping another list. Douglas Soto is also again in the top 10 of the rushing lists. Everyone already knows this the more you try to run the ball the higher the probability that you are going to have a lot of yards. mcbethbr and Wayne Roberts had an excellent gameplan to get the ball moving. I think Wayne needs to thank the big fellas ahead of him, and kudos to mcbethbr for recruiting well and setting a gameplan to get the most out of his players. This re-enforces what we already know, recruit to your gameplan philosophy and you will get success. Though your philosophy might just suck.

Which players have the most rushing TDs?

Wayne back at it again, fellas take note of this guy. Look at him and see what he looks like and try to go get yourself a Wayne Roberts. Wayne has more than half a century of rushing touchdowns, way to go Wayne and mcbethbr.

Who had the most rushing TDs by School?

For Troy State, Wayne Robert got most of the touchdowns on the ground, only 5 rushing touchdowns came from other players. As much as awags is not a fan of running the ball, he still managed to get 4 rushing touchdowns. The Irish and USF got only a single rushing touchdown. genuvar and his UNC boys were more runners than passers, they managed to get the majority of their touchdowns on the ground with 46. Maryland and chrondon are in the top third of the rushing touchdowns with 36, I bet this number will increase as he settles into his new program.

Which conference had the most rushing touchdowns?

Okay, the BEAST is just out here crushing on all fronts. They lead the way when it comes to passing and it seems like they lead the way on the ground too. They have the ACC right on their heels, the WAC is propping the whole group. The SEC are just middle of the pack when it comes to getting their touchdowns on the ground. Sun Belt again mixing it with the power conferences, over that.

I think that is enought for today, be on the look out for more Maze in the future, unitl then take it easy.
