Top 5 SOS Maze

It’s the freaking weekend and we are going to party like its 1999. We started off the weekend right with a few drinks with friends as we listened to the devil himself on The Devil and Friends podcast. After that start, the Maze has a lot to live up to. There also have been a few articles to sink our teeth into and they were all great articles too. There is a lot of pressure on the crew at the Maze, and we are going to try to live up to the bar that has been set.

As the headline suggests we are going to look at the teams that have the top 10 SOS and see how they are doing this year. The team with the toughest schedule thus far is West Virginia with coach thegruntboy. The Mountaineers have a record of 4-4 right now and they are sitting in 22nd in the rankings. This season they have had no reprieve as they have only faced human coached teams and they will do so until the end of the season as they are in the packed Big East. The Mountaineers will be topping the SOS charts until the end of the season I suspect and I think they will do the same next year as they have 4 human coaches in their OOC already and if nobody drops out of the Big East it will be more of the same. Now looking at the games they have left I suspect they will have a tough time remaining above 0.500, I hope they prove me wrong. I wish them all the best for the rest of the season and with their SOS they might finish the season ranked if they can get a few more wins and make a good bowl game for themselves.

Behind West Virginia are the Buckeyes with their second-year coach roxy11. The Buckeyes have come to play because even with their tough schedule they have managed to make the top 10 in the rankings and I am sure they plan on climbing up the rankings ladder. They have a record of 6-2 and their two losses are to the #1 and #2 teams in the country with both losses being blowouts, truth be told. This tells me the second-year coach is still working some kinks out of his team and should be running on all cylinders soon enough. Now looking ahead for the Buckeyes, there are only two tests left and those are against the Irish and the Nitty Lions. The game against the Irish is tonight and Vegas likes the Irish more than the Buckeyes, so there you go coach, the gauntlet has been thrown, prove Vegas wrong and to the Irish prove Vegas right.

The SOS bronze medal goes to the Cornhuskers of Nebraska, led by coach willgibson. They have had a tough start to the year. They have faced 8 human coached teams and have come out with 2 victories. This is a bit of a surprise to me as coach willgibson is one of the best. His team has both been blown out of games and has lost some tight ones too. Their wins have been blow outs which tells me they can do it so I wonder what happened in their 6 losses. I think the coach might be switching something around because this is very much unexpected. With all that said he still has a chance to make it to the conference title game because now it is down to divisional games and if he wins all his, he makes it to the conference title game I think and if this is true he can still get his hands on some silverware after this horrible start to the season. But to get to the title game he must go through some good teams, so I hope he figures things out quickly because he has tough games ahead. My level of concern will go up exponentially if he loses tonight to a Sim AI team.

Louisville with the third year coach da_goat who we all love has the 4th strongest schedule. His schedule is very similar to the Mountaineers schedule in terms of only playing humans. Louisville had 5 humans in OOC and now embarks on the divisional games against the other 5 human coaches in his division in the Big East. They have the same record as the Mountaineers but a very different ranking and here is were the SOS kicks in a bit I think. They drop a few places because their SOS is not as strong as that of the Mountaineers. This tells me try to schedule tough because even if you are not doing great you can still end up being ranked as the SOS will help propel you up a bit and you might get yourself a nice bowl game. I see 2 really tough games for the Louisville team and maybe one game which is a tossup but I also see winnable games against the rebuilding coaches in his division. I would keep an eye out for the Louisville team, they might influence the national title game participants (South Florida, still undefeated).

At #5 we have Florida State with the new coach bullfrog333 who came out of retirement to take over the team. He might be thinking about going back to the beach and sipping on some alcoholic concoction right about now. This has been a terrible return to the game for the coach as they have only managed to win a single game thus far this season. There is still plenty of time for them to win a few more games. The Seminoles had a very tough OOC schedule and I am sure he will try to get himself and easier OOC schedule next season. The coach is definitely changing things in Tallahassee. He is switching formations on the offensive side of the ball and that is going to take time as he will need to recruit for the new formation, he is also switching things up on the defensive side of the ball, so it is changes galore with the Florida State Seminoles.

I am sure the SOS rankings will be very different tomorrow as we will look at the rest of the top 10. If there are changes were some teams drop into the 6-10 spots from the top 5 spots we will look at the team that was in the 6-10 spot as they have not received any love today but they deserve some as well. In the in between time take it easy people and enjoy the weekend.
