Maze Games

Everyone deserves a weekend off, so there was no Maze this weekend. Wanted to give you guys a break from my rumblings. But I am back and boy am I going to rumble today. We are a few games into the season and I wanted to talk a bit about some of the games that have been played already and some games that are going to be played before going into conference play. The games that I am going to cover are the ones I figure interesting, and I am sure you will disagree with me but that is okay.

The first game we are going to talk about is one that has been played already, it is, the Miami Hurricanes going up against the LSU Tigers. That was a close game, only won by 2 points. The Tigers managed to hold homefield advantage and sneak across the line. The Tigers had less yardage than the Hurricanes, y about 100 yards. Both teams had about the same first downs and time of possession. Miami had less first third downs with their predominantly pass attack, whilst LSU had more third downs with their more balanced attack. LSU could move the ball both in the air and on the ground. The teams went into the locker room at the half all square but the Tigers made some adjustments which allowed them to win the game. The tigers look like they are the real deal, the beat the Cornhuskers already and now they face the Longhorns in game #4. That should be a great game, we have great teams that are well coached facing off and the boys in Vegas like the Longhorns in this one, keep an eye out people, keep an eye out. Miami has two more tough games left in their out of conference schedule, the play the Cuse who managed to beat the Rams who were tough last season.

The reigning national champ played the champ from the year before him and the reigning champ came out on top smelling like roses. This was not a high coring affair but it was a game between coaches who know what they are doing. The Sooners by looking at the stats looked like the better team in the game. They had double the points as the Gators, they had more yards, both on the ground and in the air. They had more time with the ball, they had more first downs and more third down conversions. Looking at this I would say they were deserved winners. This is an ominous sign for everyone in the way of the Sooners who look at repeating. I want to see how the 5th out of conference game goes, it I going to be a rematch of last season’s national title game. Both teams have reloaded so it will be interesting to see how the new boys will help their team, but before the Sooners get there, they must first play the Wolverines who have only faced one human coached team, but not any team, they faced the Colorado Rams who are well coached. The Wolverines vs the Sooners is going to be the battle of the undefeated, and it might knock one of these teams out of contention for the national title already.

Another game people might have slept on was the matchup between coach badaxe and his Memphis team going up against coach cjl9652 at Washington. If I was a betting man I would have put my money on the Washington Huskies winning this one and I would have lost all that money. The Huskies were knocked off convincingly by Memphis and their third-year coach. Coach badaxe is the same coach who managed to stop coach ebel’s conference title streak of two in a row. Memphis put up both points and yards, they had the ball longer than their opponents. Coach badaxe ran a balanced offense which ate up yards both in the air and on the ground. So, when you play them just know they can beat you on the ground and in the air. They only have 1 loss and they lost by 3 to Louisville. Now everyone knows in Wilkinson, it does not matter if you have a mid-major, a BCS or an elite, if the coach is great, the coach is great and they will get wins. This game is a +1 in that school of thought.

Some games to look forward to are the Buckeyes taking on the Vols in week 4. The Buckeyes go into this game undefeated whilst the Vols only have 1 loss. The loss was to Cal who were in the national title game last season, so it respectable to lose to such a team. Coach roxy11 has his team running like a well-oiled machine, they have picked up from where they left off last season. This is the coach’s second season and he is doing well for himself. He managed to recruit very well, 6th best class according to GUESS and now he is game planning like the champ he is. He brought two national titles in his last stint at the school and I am sure he hopes to bring more. The Vols have a coach who has been at the school a while and should have a roster that does what he wants and I expect them to put up a good fight in this game, it should be an interesting one to keep an eye on.

Another game to keep an eye on is the match up of coach saintjo and his Akron boys going up against coach ebel331 and his Houston boys. I think this might be a good game to watch. Both coaches have been at their schools while now so they have built the rosters the way they like them and they should be able to fully utilize them to win the game. This is going to be a matchup of a pass only offense vs a run only offense. It will be interesting to see which offense comes out on top. In the last few years we have seen the pass offenses dominate, and now I wonder how the run offense will do against the pass. I wonder if the run wins, will people start switching over to all run offenses? Have the world figured out how to stop an all pass offense but have neglected the all run offense? I am sure this one game will not answer all these questions but it might get some coaches to scratch their head as to what to do.

We are going to keep this one short to ease you back into the swing of things. It is Monday and I am tired from it being Monday. After the week 4 games go we will have our first rankings of the season, I wonder who will the ranked #1. Who do you have as the best team in the country? This should be another great season. I think we have awesome games all through the various levels of the world. Until the next run, take it easy.
